Adding a regular DataMiner Agent as a node in a cluster
Prerequisites
General
Verify the prerequisites listed under Adding a node to a DataMiner cluster.
Database
- If the DataMiner cluster uses Dedicated clustered storage, make sure the new DataMiner Agent (DMA) is configured to use the same clustered storage as the DataMiner cluster you are about to add it to (by modifying the general database settings in its DB.xml file to match those of the other DMAs and then restarting the DMA).
- If the cluster uses STaaS, additional steps are required. See Adding a DataMiner Agent to a cluster running STaaS.
NATS
- The DataMiner Agent you add must use the same NATS solution as the rest of the cluster. This means that if the cluster has been migrated to BrokerGateway, the DMA you add also needs to be migrated to BrokerGateway, but if the cluster still uses the SLNet-managed NATS solution, the DMA you add also has to use this solution.
- If a manual configuration was forced for NATS, you will need to manually adjust your NATS configuration with the added DMA.
Swarming
- If the cluster uses Swarming, make sure Swarming is enabled on the new DMA before you add it to the cluster.
Procedure
On a DMA that is currently already in the cluster, go to the System Center module and select the Agents page.
In the Manage tab, below the list of nodes in the cluster, click Add.
Enter the IP address of the DMA you want to add and click Add.
Important
Always use the IP address to add a regular DMA to a cluster. Adding Agents based on hostname is only supported for DataMiner Probes.
Note
- Do not use the Join cluster button to add a node to an existing cluster. This button should only be used during the initial setup of a cluster.
- To add a Failover pair to a cluster, first add the primary DMA as a regular node, and then configure Failover. See Preparing the two DataMiner Agents.
Tip
To verify if your DataMiner cluster is working correctly, you can run the SLNet connections between the DataMiner Agents BPA test. If you are using a DataMiner version prior to 10.6.0/10.6.1 and your system has not been migrated to BrokerGateway yet, run the NATS cluster verification BPA test.
